Apple designer made a $12,000 hourglass and honestly WHO is going to buy this?
If you've got $12,000 to blow and already own every Apple product under the sun, we've got great news — you can now buy this impeccably sophisticated hourglass to fill the void in your life.
Channelling the tech company's innovation, Apple designer Marc Newson revamped the traditional hourglass to create this ridiculously expensive, limited-edition product for HODINKEE, a publication specializing in wristwatches.
SEE ALSO:Tim Cook will take his Apple Watch secret to the graveNow okay, sure, The Marc Newson Hourglass technicallymeasures time. But tbh, this is pretty pointless. I mean, when was the last time you needed an hourglass? Unless you're a hardcore Days of Our Livesfan, when was the last time you even thoughtof an hourglass?
Really, this is just an unbelievable amount of money for an object with essentially no use. Just use your Apple Watch and hold on to your life savings.
That said, there's no denying that the product is pretty impressive. Newson strayed from the typical sand-filled hourglasses, and instead, filled his 150mm tall hand-blown borosilicate glass creation with over one million "nanoballs."
According to the HODINKEE shop's description, the hourglass contains approximately 1,249,996 little spheres made from solid stainless steel, covered in a fine copper and an anti-corrosion layer that will prevent them from turning green over time.
Weighing at about 3.3 lbs, the balls are so tiny and smooth that they flow through the hourglass like liquid. It's definitely not a horriblething to stare at for ten minutes.
If you want this magical item, you can place an order online — but you mustput down a $6,000 non-refundable deposit and wait a few months for production. Hold up, a $6,000 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit?! Are you kidding, Newson?
Only 100 pieces were made in the collection, so if you want one you'll have to move quickly. Or you can simply watch the mesmerizing hourglass experience below, and, you know, save your cash.
