Samsung Galaxy S8: all the leaks in one place

On March 29, Samsung's going to finally -- officially -- announce its next flagship Android smartphone, the Galaxy S8, and by all reports it will be glorious.

The Galaxy S8 will be one of the shiniest, prettiest and most feature-packed phones ever created. How do we know this? The same way we know about Apple's new iPhones months before the company announces them: internet leaks.

A much as leaks spoil the element of surprise for everyone, they also give us exactly what we crave: details to lust over.

So without further ado, here's the Galaxy S8 from all angles, courtesy of leaks.

There will be two sizes

Samsung is once again expected to release its flagship in two screen sizes: a regular "S8" with a 5.8-inch screen and an "S8 Plus" with a 6.2-inch display. Both will sport curved edges and there's unlikely to be a flatscreen model this time around; yep, it's curved screens forever from here on out. Also highly likely: the screens will have an 18:9 aspect ration, use Super AMOLED display tech, and sport 2,880 x 1,440 resolution. Sorry guys, but you'll probably have to keep waiting for a 4K phone from Samsung.

The display corners are round

LG's new flagship G6 won't be the only phone with rounded screen corners for long. As you can see in pretty much every leaked image of the S8, the corners are rounded.

When we asked LG about why the G6's display has rounded corners, the company said it filed off the corners in order to increase its durability when impacted from the edges, and reduce the chances of cracking the screen. We suspect Samsung will probably give a similar reason.

If nothing else, rounded corners make the phones look more futuristic. Right angles are so 2016.

The home button's gone

With the new larger and longer display dominating the entire front of the phone, there's just no room to fit the home button/fingerprint sensor in the bottom bezel.

Instead of a physical home button, the phone's probably going to have a virtual home button (as seen below) that'll work the same way.

The fingerprint sensor is in a weird spot

As for the fingerprint sensor that was embedded in the home button on the S6 and S7... all signs point to Samsung moving it to the back of the phone, next to the camera. Which, if you ask us, looks like the worst place to put it since you're probably going to accidentally smudge up the camera lens with your finger. Like, a lot.

A more logical place to reposition the fingerprint sensor would be below the camera, like on the LG G6 (bottom phone). It's also unclear if the fingerprint sensor will be just a sensor, or if it'll also be a home button, too. (Maybe there will be something for Samsung to announce after all!)

The design's gonna be glossy

Samsung has used the "glass sandwich" design since the Galaxy S6 and it's looking pretty clear the aesthetic will continue on the Galaxy S8.

The glass back design suggests two things: 1) The S8 will probably have fast wireless charging and 2) It'll be a fingerprint magnet.

If you're not about greasing up your phone with fingerprints, you might want to get a case. What would be really surprising is if Samsung announces a matte black version of the S8 to compete with Apple's "Black" iPhone 7.

Is that a Bixby AI button?

Word on the street is that the S8 will be way more than just a pretty -- very pretty -- screen. To compete with Apple's Siri, Google's Assistant and Microsoft's Cortana, the S8 will reportedly have its own AI assistant called Bixby.

Whatever the case is, Bixby is expected to be integrated into the S8's core -- it can reportedly identify objects and text using the camera, and might even be able to purchase identified objects. Bixby's said to be so central to the S8 that Samsung's giving it its own dedicated button.

It won't have dual cameras on the back

Take a look at all of the leaked images and you'll see there's just a single camera on the back of the phone -- no fancy dual-camera setup like on the iPhone 7.

Dual cameras might be the trend this year (i.e. LG G6, Huawei P10, etc.), but it looks like Samsung's gonna stick to just the one. It's possible the S8 could have some kinda faux bokeh mode to simulate the blurred background effect (like on the Pixels), but optical zoom? We wouldn't count on it.

It'll probably have an iris scanner

The ill-fated Note7 was the first phone with an iris scanner, but its implementation was pretty wonky. Knowing that the fingerprint sensor has moved to the backside, we're pretty confident the iris scanner will return on the Galaxy S8 (and hopefully) work better with fewer steps required to activate it.

It'll have a headphone jack and USB-C port

Apple might think the headphone jack is past its prime, but Samsung doesn't. As you can see so clearly in the leaked image, the Galaxy S8 has a headphone jack, which means you won't be forced to use any silly dongles or invest in wireless headphones.

There's also a 99.9 percent chance the Galaxy S8 will come with a USB-C port since the Note7 did, since the reversible port is the universal port of the future.

The best part is that you'll also be able to charge and plug in headphones simultaneously.

It'll come in violet?!

Glossy black and silver are cool, but violet!? That would be 🔥 . Eat your heart out rose gold!

It'll be powerful AF

Samsung's flagship phones never scrimp on performance or features (well, most of the time) and the Galaxy S8 won't be any different.

We already know it's going to come with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor, and thanks to leaks, all of the specs below:

But the iPhone 7 still might be more powerful

As feature-packed as the Galaxy S8 will likely be, it may not be quite as powerful as the iPhone 7/7 Plus. Early benchmarks logged into Geekbench suggest the iPhone 7's A10 Fusion processor might be significantly faster than the Galaxy S8's Snapdragon 835 processor for most regular single-core tasks. However, for 3D gaming and juggling multiple apps, the S8 might have a slight edge.

Now that you know what the Galaxy S8 will look like from virtually every angle, here's what it'll be like to actually use it.

Remember, all of this is unconfirmed, and Samsung has still not said word one about the Galaxy S8 -- only that there will be an event on March 29 with the teaser "Unbox your phone." So you could just go on that... or believe your own eyes.
