The two Koreas expressed hopes of resuming the suspended tour program at the North's Mount Geumgang but it is unlikely to be this year, Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun told reporters Monday, after a two-day visit to the North.

"At this point, the situation is difficult for the tour program to be resumed within this year, but I think it will be done in the near future," Hyun said. She said there were no detailed discussions on economic cooperation with the North.

An inter-Korean joint event commemorating the 20th anniversary of Mount Geumgang tourism was held at the special zone for international tours of the mountain on Sunday and Monday. It was the first since the 16th anniversary event in 2014.

About 100 South Korean officials attended, including the Hyundai chairwoman and former Unification Minister Lim Dong-won.

About 80 North Korean officials participated, including Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee Vice Chairman Ri Taek-gon and the DPRK Guidance Bureau of Special Zone for International Tour of Mount Kumgang Director Hwang Ho-yong.

During the event, participants toured scenic spots around Guryongyeon Pool, the first time in 10 years for the South Koreans.
